The 15th Policy Plenary Meeting was held
on May 31st 2006 on the theme "Evaluation of the Outcome
of the Hyderabad Meeting (the 9th ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers' Meeting)."
Mr. IDO Kiyoto, Director-General of International Bureau at the
Ministry of Finance, stated that "an agreement to study a
'regional currency unit' was discussed but this differed from
the concept of a 'regional common currency.' The establishment
of the Euro took 50 years, but in Asia such a process would likely
take 100 years."
There were 11 CEAC members and Prof. ITO
Kenichi, President & CEO of the Japan Forum on International
Relations, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Finance
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
